Citrus County Events – Wrapping Up the First Month of 2019

Are you looking for something fun and interesting to do in Citrus County? Tired of doing the same thing every weekend? We’ve compiled a list of great Citrus County events going on in and around town for the end of this first month in the new year. There’s a little something for everyone to do in Citrus County!

January 25th & 26th – 20th Annual Tractor & Truck Pull

If you want to see an action-packed event, full of lots of noise and smoke, the 20th Annual Tractor and Truck Pull at the Citrus County Fairgrounds is just the event for you. Tractors and trucks of all sizes rev up and spin rubber this weekend and compete for prizes. Contestants must pull mechanically weighted sleds and are awarded based on pulling the longest and heaviest loads. Check out any of the 3 action packed tracks. Food and camping are available, shop from the vendors and watch the daily junior tractor races. Bring your whole family to this exciting Citrus County event. January 26th- Tampa Bay Gasparilla

Although this is not a local Citrus County event, a one-hour drive to Tampa is worth the ride for this famous Florida parade of pirates. Join thousands of people at the annual Gasparilla Parade in Tampa, Florida. Dress to impress in your best pirate gear and be ready to grab plenty of beads thrown from the parade floats. Pirates invade the city to celebrate their takeover of the city of Tampa. Collect beads, treasures and more along the 4.5-mile parade route down historic Bayshore Boulevard into downtown Tampa. Over 100 elaborately decorated floats, 5 marching bands, costumes, music and so much more! This is a free event to attend for all ages, however reserved seating is available online. January 26th – 3rd Annual Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival & Car Show

If you enjoy visiting car shows and live music, this event at Rock Crusher Canyon has both! Check out the car show presented by Citrus MOPAR Car Club. There will be craft vendors, food vendors and adult beverages available for purchase. Live music by: Stillhouse Shakers, Pasture Primer, Orange Blossom Ramblers, Sweeney Family Band, Backwater Bluegrass and Sandy Back Porch Band. Event is from 10AM-5PM. January 26th – 3rd Annual Citrus Got Talent Finals

Check out all of the amazing talent showcased in this Citrus County event. This is the finale for the preliminary talent contest from the Cooter Festival in the fall. Our local talented finalists compete for the title in junior, teen and adult categories. Tickets are only $8. The show takes place at the Valerie Theatre in downtown Inverness. January 26th-Homosassa Twistee Treat USA Grand Opening

January 28th– Celebrate Lu the Hippo’s 59th Birthday at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park

Lu the Hippopotamus is turning 59 years old at the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. Park staff and guests will be singing “Happy Birthday” to the famous Hippo and will present him with a specially- made birthday cake. Florida based company, The Hyppo, will be giving away free popsicles during the event. Party starts at 10:30AM. Bring the family for a day of education and fun. February 2nd – Rotary Highland Craft Brew Festival

Beer drinkers rejoice at this annual Citrus County event! The Rotary Club of Inverness presents the Highland Craft Brew Festival at the Rock Crusher Canyon Pavilion. Event attendees can try over 60 samples of beer from home brewers and microbreweries. Mix and mingle while dancing the night away to live music by Celtic rock band, Off Kilter. Munch on treats from food trucks, enter raffles and shop the vendors. The entire event is a People’s Choice competition for the brewers from around the state. A new addition to this year’s event is the Ultimate Highlander VIP scotch tasting. Prices vary from $10-$100 depending on which experience you would like. This event is from 6PM-9PM. February 2nd -Sizzle Las Vegas Show

See the lights and sounds of Las Vegas without ever leaving our town! Sizzle Las Vegas brings Vegas to us at this Citrus County event in Citrus Springs. This show features singing, dancing, comedy, burlesque and much more. The show is hosted by special guest and comedian, Frank Del Pizzo. Get your tickets now and experience all of the great acts that Las Vegas has to offer in this one night only revue. Food and alcohol will be available for purchase. General admission tickets are $20. VIP tickets are $30 and include a table and free cocktail or beer. Show is from 6:30PM-9PM at the Citrus Springs Community Center. For more information and tickets visit their website.
